About Us

The International Vocational Schools Symposium (UMYOS) traces its origins to the First National Vocational Schools Symposium, organized by the Technical Sciences Vocational School of Marmara University on 18–19 October 2001. During this pioneering event, key issues concerning vocational schools, including educational quality, curriculum development, and the qualifications of instructors, were comprehensively discussed within an academic platform. Through paper and poster presentations, participants exchanged ideas and experiences, making significant contributions to the advancement of vocational and technical education at the higher education level.

This symposium served as a pioneering initiative that fostered academic collaboration and knowledge sharing among vocational schools in Türkiye. Over time, it evolved into the current UMYOS series, which is now organized with international participation. Today, UMYOS continues to serve as a respected scientific platform that brings together researchers from diverse disciplines and contributes to shaping the future of vocational and technical education.

UMYOS is primarily dedicated to enhancing the quality of vocational and technical education, strengthening cooperation between higher education institutions and industry, and promoting discussions on policies and practices aimed at improving graduate employability. In line with these objectives, scientific papers are presented within the framework of themes determined for each symposium. In addition, panels, workshops, and special sessions are organized to address current challenges in the field and to develop practical and innovative solutions.

To date, the symposium has been held in different countries and hosted by various higher education institutions. This multi-centered structure has made significant contributions to the development of collaborations among academics, practitioners, and industry representatives from different countries. It has also facilitated joint scientific projects and strengthened international academic networks, thereby fostering the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices on a global scale.
